Mwanga Community Bank Limited (MCBL), will soon
sign a contract with Vodacom Tanzania to establish M-Pesa services in a
bid to enable customers to use mobile money solution to either
deposit, withdraw, send money or repay bank loans.
Speaking in an interview with Corporate Digest, the
managing director for MCBL, Abby Ghuhia, said they expect to
officially launch the M-Pesa service soon after penning the deal with
Vodacom.
This will bring financial inclusion to the
surrounding community and has the advantage of letting bank customers
transact without going to the bank physically."
Currently, MCB is also an agent for TiGo-Pesa
whereby customers can repay their bank's loan, withdraw money or send
money through these services.
In another front, MCBL is set to extend its Umoja Switch ATM services with the aim of taking services closer to the people.
The MD for MCBL, said that the service will ease
the problem of lack of branches as customers will be able to withdraw
money on any ATM connected to the through Umoja Switch service.
The banks that use Umoja Switch ATMs include;
Azania Bank Ltd., Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB), Dar es Salaam Community
Bank (DCB), Tanzania Investment Bank (TIB), Twiga Bancorp, Tanzania
Postal Bank (TPB), Tanzania Women Bank (TWB), Bank of Africa (BoA),
Mwanga Community Bank (MCB) and Access Bank among others.
Immediately after the launch of ATM services, MCB
plans to install ATMs in different areas so as to move closer to the
people.
"Customers with VisaCard ATMs, which are used on
many banks can also access their money. These banks include CRDB, NBC,
and Standard Chartered etc," he said.
