Open University of Tanzania (OUT) vice-chancellor Prof Tolly Mbwette has been awarded the International Academic Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution in the education sector.
The award was bestowed to him by the World Education Congress administering ‘Global Awards for Excellence in Education Leadership & Teaching’ at a ceremony in India recently.
He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering he obtained in London, the UK in 1989. His publications include Development and Exploitation of ICT Infrastructure and Services for Improved Teaching and Management of Research in African Universities.
Others are, Internationalisation of Higher Education in Africa and Focus Funding and Creating Real Impact for Higher Education in the sub-Saharan Africa Region.
His past consultancy works include Team Leader of the National University of Rwanda (NUR) in 2009/10, preparation of the NUR Human Resources Audit and Plans for Improved Management and Team Leader in the preparation of the New Organisational Structure and Participatory Organs for the College of Business Education (CBE).
The don participated in the preparation of a number of policies and plans, including the New Organisational Structure and Participatory Organs and Preparation for the NUR Student Affairs Policy, National Institute of Transport (NIT), Proposal for Student Unit Cost for Tanzanian Universities, and preparation of the Proposal for Upgrading Mbeya Technical College into Mbeya Institute for Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, OUT lecturer Dr Cornelia Muganda from the Faculty of Education received the Excellence in E-Learning Award at the same event.
