Chiza said her bank has always played an active role in various environment conservation efforts within Ilala Municipality including a number of garden maintenance projects, rooting out of paper bags by printing cloth re-usable shopping bags, Juvenile clean-up, donation of cleaning materials projects, environmental initiatives at work place that also includes economical usage of paper and electricity are a few to mention as a policy adopted by the bank for all employees.
“We are indebted for this kind of recognition. Various financial institutions have too engaged in environmental conservation campaign but we have emerged one of the best this year and we intend to keep it rolling.

“My promise is that we will continue working hand in hand with all the environmental stakeholders in all the areas we operate in order to minimize risks of environment mismanagement since the consequences are costly,” she said.
“The award could not have come at a better time for Exim Bank which is at present celebrating its 15 years in business as a local Tanzanian Bank that has successfully placed its footprints and foundations for being the bank of choice for the common Mwananchi.
“It is rewards like this that bring us great pride as it goes a long way to show years of Exim’s combination of innovation, competitiveness and outstanding environmental concern,” she noted.
Individuals, groups and businesses from around Dar es Salaam were entered into the competition from the 3 municipals – Temeke, Kinondoni and Ilala. The awards, recognizing valuable contributions to environmental awareness and problem solving, are a unique way that the municipal can recognize individuals and groups that are making significant impacts on the environmental quality in distinct ways.
“Congratulations to all of our 2012 Environmental Award recipients. These awards are close to my heart because they acknowledge the importance of environmental stewardship,” said Kinondoni District Commissioner, Jordan Rugimbana who represented the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Said Meck Sadiki at the event.
“As stewards, all of these recipients are making real and lasting differences in communities across our beautiful region. Whether it’s finding innovative ways to safeguard our vegetation resources or conserving the energy our communities each day, each individual has advanced our mission to protect human health and the environment,” he added.
He called upon various organizations to enforce the environment management act saying this would help in dealing with offenders.
